Careful with Fourth of July Fireworks: Your Hand Could End Up Like This

A bomb squad demonstrates the dangers of do-it-yourself Fourth of July fireworks.

Following a Thursday afternoon news conference, the State Fire Marshal's bomb squad demonstrated the dangers of using both illegal and legal fireworks. 

The demonstration included explosives—like the M-80—which squad commander Jack Waldner said are classified as improvised explosive devices and subject to fines up to $250,000. 

But that's not the worst part. Two doctors—Ray Wittstadt of the Curtis National Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital and Dean Fiergang, representive Maryland Eye Physicians and Surgeons—went over just how much damage a firecracker can cause.
