Carroll County Deals with Rain, Rain, More Rain

Carroll County is closing roads and monitoring the Piney Run reservoir as the rain continues.

Carroll County is starting to see some effects of the relentless rain, which is expected to continue into tomorrow.

The county posted the following notice on its emergency management website earlier this afternoon:

There is a long string of very heavy rain over and extending down to the south of the western Baltimore metro area. With this we expect road and flash flooding in general this afternoon. Much of this band is producing 2" per hour rates, and some places could see 5-6" this afternoon which would be a major impact. We encourage all residents to use extreme caution while driving and avoid areas of standing water.

The county has posted road closures on its website and said the list of closures will be updated throughout the next 24 hours. The following roads have been closed due to flooding as of 3:30 p.m.:

  • Bethel Road between 5616 and Woodbine
  • Kern Road between 4808 and 4927
  • Hollingsworth Road between Glen Falls and 2810
  • Schaeffer Miller Road, Grave Run at pipe
  • Hoffman Mill Road

Carroll County Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Weed said that they are also in phase I pre-emergency for the Piney Run reservoir. Weed said that they are dumping water out of the reservoir to keep the water level down.

"We will be getting more rain overnight. We're just staying prepared," Weed said.
