Carroll County Unemployment Rate Down Slightly in 2011, Recent Statistics Show

The rate is slightly lower than was recorded in 2010, according to county statistics released Friday.

Unemployment rates for December 2011 released Friday show Carroll County at an annual average of 6.2 percent for the year, down from an annual average of 6.7 in 2010. 

Only 5.6 percent of Carroll County residents were unemployed in December, making it the second lowest month of the year, according to statistics from the Carroll County Department of Economic Development. 

With 93,738 Carroll County residents in the labor force, 88,449 were employed in December and 5,289 were unemployed, statistics show.

The rate of unemployed residents dropped from 6.8 percent in January 2011 to 5.6 percent in December. 

Carroll County ranks behind Howard, Montgomery, Calvert, St. Mary's, Charles and Frederick counties for lowest rate of unemployed residents.
