Comment: 'I'll Happily Give Back My Tax Cut'

Carroll County citizens weighed in this week on Patch.

City Council Gets First Glimpse at Landlord Licensing Program

"It is a shame that one or two pieces of property can still bring down property values and can be allowed to disrupt an entire neighborhood. My understanding it that particular properties have been consistent problems for decades. I thought when a murder occured at one of the worst offenders, that this would provide leverage for cleaning things up. Obviously it hasn't." --Laura Russell

Commissioners Say there Could Be Budget Implications if Schools Aren't Closed

"As a business owner, I would GLADLY pay a small tax to help keep our school system intact and positioned for future growth--My agency directly benefits from well educated people! As a parent with two kids in the public system, I don't want my kids to be one of Rothschild's  'losers' on this issue." -- David M. Baker

"Don't close the schools. I'll happily give back my tax cut." -- Blue Carroll County

"If the Commissioners believe that Carroll County is growing--and I do--it would seem that closing schools is short-sighted. In the first place, why do most families move here? Isn't it for good schools?" -- Kathy

Reducing the cost of administration by 10% across the board would make a big difference...too many top feeders..

@JoAnn-You need to move to the city where the schools s--- if you want vouchers and charter schools. Really please move! You and your Tea Party ilk are part of the problem, not the solution. Our schools are decent and need more funding, not less. Vouchers and charter schools in counties that do not have educational problems would clearly undermine funding and performance of our schools. It's quite typical of the Tea Party to solve problems that don't exist. Exhibit A-the English only legislation. Vouchers and charters are just another conservative red herring to attack education funding, unfortunately, in a very lean funded Republican county like ours, they are as wasteful as is most of your other patriotic drivel.

I don't know how a county that ranks 22nd in the nation for per capita income can't pay for schools.Maybe we should get rid of the extra commissioners we added. We just got finished building new schools now we want to close them and have over crowding again? What happen to all this money the casinos were supose to bring to the schools? Building in Carroll stalled during the recession, but building starts are up again. We need to come up with a way to pay for our schools. If we don't our children will pay the price for this.We certainly shouldn't be considering closing South Carroll schools because of building schools in the north of the county that we didn't need. South Carrol is still growing and there is no reason why Liberty High was even mentioned as an option for closure

@Darla. You are so right. We should be focused on ways to increase economic development and bring more people to Carroll County not drive citizens out of the county because they are afraid that their schools will be closed. The children of Carroll County deserve to be educated in their communities where they benefit from support from parents and local businesses. Sometimes it really does take a village... I consider myself a conservative republican but seriously Mr Rothschild you are out of touch with this county. We want out public schools funded. I will gladly give back my 2 cent tax cut if it means more school funding.
