Daily Dose June 10: Special Olympics, Lunch Concert, Air Quality Alert

Patch has found five things to help you start your day.

>> Number Worth Noting: 225. This is the number of community members and law enforcement personnel that participated in this year's Maryland Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run on Wednesday. These folks braved record high temperatures to bike and run from all parts of the county into Westminster to help carry the "Flame of Hope" torch down Main Street to the Family Center. It was inspiring to say the least.

>> Today is the start of the Maryland Special Olympics summer games in Towson. If you know a Special Olympics athlete, make sure to wish him or her good luck! If you are a competitor, please email Patch to let us know how you did at the competition, send pictures and video!!

>> There is soooo much going on around town this weekend! Check out the Get Out article today listing five fun things to get into and also take a gander at our events calendar. There truly is something for everyone (lacrosse tournament, fiddlers' convention, farmer's markets, carnivals, etc...)

>> Weather Forecast: According to Weather Underground, a record high temperature of 100 degrees was set in Baltimore yesterday. This breaks the old record of 98 set in 1933. Today there is an Air Quality Alert which means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Friday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be around 90. The weekend will bring us temps in the low 80s with possible thunderstorms.

>> Don't forget today's Lunch at the Library Concert Series at the Westminster Library, it's outdoors and it's free! Stop by at noon to see Mike D’addario from Hampstead as he performs originals and acoustic rock classics in a rare solo performance. AND, if you purchase one of his CDs during the concert, he will donate the proceeds to the American Red Cross for the Missouri Tornado Victims. Pick up lunch nearby and jam out during your lunch break.
