Expect Delays if Traveling Through Taneytown Today

The Maryland Highway Administration is laying asphalt on MD 140 in Taneytown.

Today, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is performing asphalt work along a section of MD 140 (Baltimore Street) between MD 194 (Frederick Street/York Street) and Trevanion Road in Taneytown.

Eastbound and westbound MD 140 traffic will be shifted to outside lanes, which allows crews to perform asphalt work in the center of MD 140.  Three layers of base asphalt will be applied and must settle and cool before MD 140 is reopened to traffic, according to a news release.

Work began at 8 a.m. and is expected to be complete no later than midnight.  All lanes should reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.  Flaggers will alternate traffic through the work zone. The news release reports that motorists should expect major delays as more than 13,000 vehicles travel on this section of MD 140 each day.
