Get Out: Wreaths, Santa, 'An Old World Country Christmas'

Have a "Charlie Brown Christmas," enjoy a county artist studio tour and visit Santa Claus this weekend.

Enjoy the classic television short "A Charlie Brown Christmas?" Have you ever watched it while listening to the music live? The Carroll County Arts Council is doing just that, presenting "A Charlie Brown Jazz Christmas" Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Satrday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The event features the animated holiday film with a live performance of the Vince Guaraldi jazz score by the Eric Byrd Trio. While you're at the Carroll Arts Center, walk the 14th annual Festival of Wreaths, featuring more than 220 decorated theme wreaths on display for the public to view during the five-day silent auction. The hours for the wreath display are Dec. 2, 3 and 4 from noon to 4 p.m., with bidding for the silent auction ending at 4 p.m. on Dec. 4.

Learn about local artists this weekend while exploring the 5th annual Studio Tour in Carroll County. The tour looks at 12 art studios featuring more than 30 artists exhibiting and selling their crafts. The tour will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4. The Town of Sykesville is hosting a Merry Main Street event featuring live music by String Echoes, kids activities, ice sculpting, carolers, refreshments, model trains, meet the Grinch and free gift wrapping for items bought in Main Street shops from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Santa arrives at 6 p.m. on Main Street to light the Christmas Tree. Santa will also visit the Sykesville Railway to sit in the caboose for a photo opportunity.

Celebrate the Holiday Season at the Carroll County Farm Museum by enjoying an “Old World Country Christmas” with tours of the 19th Century Farmhouse complete with the sounds of the season. Visit the Olde Candy Shoppe, grab a bite to eat from one of the specialty food vendors, and pick up some fresh baked goods and hot cocoa from the Bake Shoppe while warming up to a crackling fire in the Summer Kitchen. The hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 2 and from noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 3, 4 and 5, with Santa making a special appearance on the weekends.
