High Wind Warning in Effect for Carroll County Until 7 p.m.

There are already trees blocking roadways and electric outages across the county as a result of recent storms and today's high winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Carroll County, in effect until 7 p.m. this evening. The previous Wind Advisory has expired.

According to Weather Underground, we will experience west-northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 60 mph during the mid- to late afternoon and early evening. The winds could result in downed trees, falling branches and
power lines.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected. Wind gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage, so secure any loose outdoor property. Weather Underground reports wind gusts of 64 mph and 67 mph in Carroll County this afternoon.

Baltimore Gas & Electric said in a news release today that it is closely monitoring an approaching weather system that is forecasted to bring high wind into central Maryland today and Saturday, possibly causing electric service interruptions. The saturated ground combined with wind gusts of up to 45 mph could cause trees already weakened by last weekend’s wind storm to fall onto power lines and other electric delivery equipment, causing interruptions to electric service.
