Junction Survives, Will Continue to Serve Community

Junction, Inc. will continue to be a part of the Carroll County community, serving individuals and families dealing with substance abuse issues.

Patch reported on May 23 that Junction was planning to close its operations on June 17 due to funding cuts. Many in the community, including several of the Carroll County commissioners, said that losing an organization like Junction, which has been serving Carroll citizens for 41 years, would be a detriment. 

"They [Junction] do treatment but they also do a lot of prevention, and that can be difficult to measure because you can't show that you fixed a problem if the problem never occurred," Robin Bartlett-Frazier, R-District 1, said at a May 24 commissioners meeting. 

Chief of Staff Steven D. Powell said at that same meeting, "Junction has been around for 30 or 40 years. It is a very important part of our community. It has been important in addictions treatment for a long time. We will try to figure out if there is a way to keep the program alive as Junction." 

In a news release this morning, the Carroll County Board of Commissioners announced that Junction worked in tandem with Youth Services Bureau "to preserve the critical role of Junction." 

According to the release, the Board of Commissioners recognized the need for Junction to continue providing services to Carroll’s youth and directed its staff to explore ways to keep the organization operating. 

Kevin Dayhoff, a Junction board member for the past 11 years, said he is happy that a resolution was found that allows Junction to continue serving the community. 

"It’s a good day for Carroll County. This is a result of teamwork and partnership—recognizing a need and stepping up to the plate to make sure that it happened," Dayhoff said.

Junction, Inc. will continue to accept clients and provide services at its current location, 98 N. Court St. in Westminster, according to the news release.
