Monarch Butterflies Will Find Their Wings in Carroll County Sunday

Don't be surprised if you see a few butterflies in the area on Sunday, Sept. 11, it's the Fifth Annual Monarch Madness Festival at Bear Branch Nature Center.

When you think of Sept. 11, your mind might not immediately conjur up images of butterflies. But the fifth annual Monarch Madness Festival offers families an opportunity to get outdoors and appreciate nature, beauty and community, and for many, that is the perfect way to spend Sept. 11.

The festival will be held at the Bear Branch Nature Center, located on the grounds of Hashawha Environmental Center, on Sunday, Sept. 11, from Noon to 4 p.m.

Many activities will be featured including special guest speakers talking about Monarch way stations, native gardening, and integrated pest management. Meet a life-sized Monarch butterfly and caterpillar, and take a guided walk and learn about native and invasive plants and butterfly habitat.
