NWS: Another Storm Likely

Several scenarios lead to the same outcome: more thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

More than 1,000 Carroll County residents are still in the dark four days after a storm in the area.

Now the National Weather Service is reporting another storm may be on the way.

"A few thunderstorms may be strong to severe with large hail and damaging wind gusts," the NWS's hazardous weather outlook reported Tuesday evening.

According to the forecast discussion, a "mesoscale convective system" -- a group of thunderstorms that form a large-scale system -- was headed toward Pennsylvania earlier Tuesday evening. If that system holds, there's a 60-70 percent chance we'll see scattered thunderstorms this evening.

And, "even if it weakens ... additional storms may refire along its boundary ..." according to NWS.

Another NWS model shows a group of thunderstorms moving directly over the region.

The point is: prepare for rain. Don't expect it to end tonight, either. According to NWS, there is still a 50 percent chance of storms on the Fourth of July and they may become severe in the afternoon and evening.

FEMA recommends having these items on hand in the event that the power goes off (or hasn't yet returned):

  • Nonperishable food (at least a three-day supply)
  • Flashlight
  • Extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger
