Flash Flooding Possible Wednesday

Experts are warning that areas along the East Coast could see flash flooding Wednesday as the remnants of Isaac send bouts of heavy rain our way.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of the Baltimore/Washington region, including Carroll and Howard counties.

Experts predicted heavy rainfall could result in localized flash flooding Tuesday evening. The risk for heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding will continue into Wednesday, according to the NWS website.

In its annual "Turn Around, Don't Drown" campaign, the NWS works to educate citizens on the dangers of driving during flash floods. 

Each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other severe weather-related hazard, the NWS reports. The main reason is people underestimate the force and power of water. The NWS recommends the following safety tips: 

• Avoid areas already flooded, especially if the water is flowing fast. Do not attempt to cross flowing streams. 
• Road beds may be washed out under flood waters. NEVER drive through flooded roadways.
• Do not camp or park your vehicle along streams and washes, particularly during threatening conditions.
• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
