The annual event brought out turkeys large and small for a brisk 3-mile run to kick off Thanksgiving.

Not everyone was hitting snooze on the alarm clock or cooking bright and early Thanksgiving morning. More than 1,000 people decided to go for a trot Thursday morning, in the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K that is.

The race started at 8:30 a.m. and left from Carroll Community College. Runners made their way up Washington Road (Rt. 32), across Hook Road and then down Rt. 97 back towards the YMCA. The race ended at the YMCA. The entire course was 3.1 miles.

More than 1,200 people registered for the annual Westminster event, which is also held at locations in Catonsville, Bel Air and Towson.
