Recycling Your Christmas Tree in Carroll County

Carroll County residents have multiple options for recycling Christmas trees.

Christmas trees can be recycled as compost, mulch or chips to be used later in a garden or in a landscape project. Trees ground into mulch provide good ground cover that reduces soil erosion, deters weed growth and conserves water in landscaping.

Christmas trees can be dropped off at one of the following locations to be recycled and re-used. Before dropping off your tree, remove all non-organic objects, such as lights, wire, tinsel, and ornaments.

Carroll County Government locations are: Northern Landfill and Recycling Center, 1400 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Hoods Mill Landfill, 7901 Kabik Court, Woodbine, the first and third Saturdays of the month only
from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Westminster

The City of Westminster offers residents free Christmas tree disposal at a designated dumpster or through bi-weekly curbside collection following the bulk trash schedule.

Trees collected through this program are shredded, along with other tree limbs, to be used as mulch on city flower beds, tree pits, and park grounds.

According to a Westminster government news release, each year the city is able to produce around 200 tons of mulch, which saves the city from having to buy it at a local supply yard. To learn more about Treecycling, click here.

Sykesville
