Two-Year Bridge Project to Cause Delays on Rt. 140

An overhaul of the bridge over Liberty Reservoir between Finksburg and Reisterstown will likely cause traffic congestion during rush hour commutes.

The Rt. 140 bridge between Finksburg and Reisterstown over Liberty Reservoir is being overhauled and brought up to date in a massive two-year construction project, according to the State Highway Administration (SHA).

Delegate Justin Ready, R-Carroll County, wrote in an email to Carroll County residents: "The bridge is in definite need of repair but this project will lead to future delays and increased travel times for residents.  It will involve having one lane closed on the four lane road for long periods of time.  The State Highway Administration (SHA) will be in charge of keeping residents up to date with updates on the construction."

The SHA has scheduled a public informational meeting to discuss this project on June 14 in Reisterstown.

Ready said there will also be bridge repair work done on Rt. 140 on the other side of the county at the Carroll/Frederick line where Rt. 140 crosses the Monocacy River between Taneytown and Emmitsburg. He said details are still to come.

Delegate Ready suggested that residents with questions contact Daniel Beck, SHA project manager at dbeck@sha.state.md.us. He added, "...feel free to copy me and my staff and I will be sure you get an answer."
