Westminster Man Sentenced To 100 Years In Prison For Sex Abuse

Nicholas Adam DeRita was convicted of 11 crimes that occurred over a six-year period

A Westminster man was sentenced in Carroll County Circuit Court Monday to 100 years in prison for the sexual abuse of three children, the Associated Press reported.

Nicholas Adam DeRita Jr, 48, was convicted in February of seven counts of sex abuse of a minor, one count of second degree sex offense, two counts of third degree sex offense and one count of sodomy, according to the Maryland Case Search.

The offenses began as early as October 2000 and ended in summer 2006, according to the case search. Some of the crimes took place for a few months, others for more than two years continuously, the court records indicated.

DeRita pled not guilty to all 11 charges, according to court records.

Although DeRita faced a maximum sentence of 215 years in prison, several years were suspended, according to the court records.
