Westminster Park Swingin' as Summer Concert Series Kicks Off

The Jay Henley band played for hundreds at Sunday evening's concert.

On Sunday around 6 p.m., people of all ages began filing into the Westminster City Park. They came carrying chairs, blankets and coolers. Making their way to the athletic fieldssome pushing strollers, some pushing wheelchairsthey made themselves comfortable and waited for the music to begin.

This will be the scene at the park for the next four Sundays. July 3 was the kickoff for the Month of Sundays Summer Concert Series hosted by the Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks

The concerts, which start at 6:45 p.m., are free, although donations of personal care items including baby food, diapers, formula, paper goods or cleaning supplies will be collected to benefit the Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc.

The Jay Henley band entertained the crowd on July 3. The band performs all along the East Coast and has opened for Keith Urban, Trace Adkins, Craig Morgan and Lady Antebellum.

  • July 10: King Teddy features bouncy swing numbers, rockabilly rave ups, smooth ballads and a few surprises. 
  • July 17: The Rockersons feature both male and female lead singers singing harmony vocals from the '60s, '70s and '80s. 
  • July 24: Big Cam & the Lifters have entertained audiences throughout the Mid-Atlantic region playing music from rock-and-roll's early years. 
  • July 31: The Majestics are a high energy eight-piece variety/R&B/Motown band. They have performed with the Commodores, The Temptations, The Coasters and Bo Diddley.
