Westminster Police Public Information Officer Steps Down

Capt. Gerry Frischkorn announced Thursday that he will be departing the Westminster Police Department next week after three years of service.

Capt. Gerry Frischkorn will be vacating his position as commander of the Administrative Bureau of the Westminster Police Department effective next week.

His last day in his position will be Friday, Oct. 7.

According to the city’s website, Frischkorn began his career with the Westminster Police Department in June of 2008. Before that he worked in Ocean City with the Maryland Police Department and with the Howard County Police Department, from which he retired in 2008 after nearly 30 years of service.

As one of his duties in Westminster, Frischkorn worked as a public information officer. He was also responsible for fulfilling such duties as ordering equipment and working with the automated enforcement program.

Those responsibilities are now being temporarily assumed by Maj. Ron Stevens, he stated in the e-mail. Stevens is the Westminster Police Department's deputy chief of police.

The city’s site states Frischkorn resides in West Friendship with his wife and two children.

In response to an e-mail inquiry, Frischkorn wrote that he is going into the private sector. He did not give a reason for his departure.

"We’re certainly sorry to see him go," said Westminster Police Chief Jeffrey Spaulding in a phone interview. "We regret that he’s leaving but we will continue to carry on here after he leaves, and we wish him the best.”

Spaulding called Frischkorn's departure "a surprise."

"We're still working to figure out what the structure will be post Gerry," he said. "He was responsible for all the infrastructure for us to perform our job in the field so he did a lot."

Spaulding said the department is working on figuring out how to deal with Frischkorn's departure from a managerial point of view.

"There are certainly ramifications; we're going to have to figure out structural changes...We're working through those issues right now," he said.
