What to Know on May 23

Patch rounds up important (ok, maybe at times trivial) nuggets of knowledge that will help you start off your day.

>>There are 18.5 days of school before summer vacation for K-11 students. Tell us in comments--does this make you happy or are you dreading it?

>>This will shock you, but we are expecting rain. There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today after 1 p.m. according toThe National Weather Service with a high near 82 degrees. We'll be praying for rain in late July so enjoy it while it's here.

>>There is a regularly scheduled Westminster Common Council meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall. This will be the first official (regularly scheduled) meeting for newly elected Council members Paul Whitson and Dennis Frazier. This meeting is open to the public.

>>According to my handy dandy iphone app FuelFinder, the cheapest gas in Westminster is (drum roll please): BJ's at $3.77 per gallon for regular unleaded. But Wawa, Royal Farms and Oceanic are not far off at $3.79 per gallon for regular unleaded. To be fair, over the weekend I compared the prices listed on FuelFinder with what was actually posted at gas stations and it was accurate every time I checked; however, I can't guarantee its accuracy. I know there are comparable apps out there. In fact, tell us in the comment section below if you use another reliable gas price comparison app!

>>The ladies lacrosse teams in Carroll County are doing us proud! Congratulations to the Westminster, Winters Mill and Century High School girls lacrosse teams for making it to state finals! They will be competing at UMBC on Tuesday and Wednesday. Go get 'em girls!
