Blog: I'm Back, and Paying it Forward

I had a great pay it forward experience....how about you?

I haven't written in quite some time and I am finally getting back into the swing of...uhhh...life?  I was in a bit of a rut for a while, as many people get into and can't seem to get out of...but life seems to be looking pretty darn good these days! Especially now that spring is here.  Thanks for reading and not holding my absence too much against me...

So, last Friday I took my 18 month old to Jimmie Cone for the first time.  I was very excited for this experience with her and to share a chocolate cone.  But, when it came to pay I only had my debit card and didn't realize they only take cash.  A complete stranger watched me walk my daughter back to the car and heard her crying.  I felt a tap on my shoulder and she handed me $5....so nice and completely unnecessary.  I thanked her over and over.

So, last night I was in the drive-thru at Starbucks and decided to pay for the lady's order in line behind me.  The guy working the drive-thru said, "Right on...cool."  I laughed a little because he sounded just like Crush (the sea turtle dude) from Finding Nemo.  Anyway, he then proceeded to tell me that around the holidays they once had a line of 26 cars long each paying for the person behind them.  Pretty cool.

So, I'm curious.  Have you done anything recently to pay it forward?

Hello Erin, I like that. A few months ago, I was in a Subway in Rockville, and a scruffy old guy came in and sat down and emptied his pockets on the table and started digging through lint and stuff trying to scrape together enough money for a sandwich. So I gave him a couple bucks. He looked a little embarrassed. I didn't say anything, he didn't say anything, we just looked in each other's eyes, but there was this sort of sad, dejected gratitude in his. I gave him a quick wink and left.

Congratulations graduates! May you be as successful in the next part of your journey as you were atRead More St. John School.

I don't live in your district and I am not a member of your party. I have watched you during yourRead More meetings with the commissioners and you handle things very well. You have a balance of private and public sector experience which is a necessary background to have to guide the county. It will be nice to have a competent person with your qualifications to run against someone who is totally unqualified but never had any opposition in the last election. Now she will have to attend the voter forums and explin her views and positions. Let the chips fall where they may. The emperor will have no clothes.

Wow, this is great news. Hopefully, 1 down and 4 to go!! Make sure Frazier shows up at theRead More political forums this time. She chose to miss every one last time, so she did not have to answer questions on her positions and her horrible record the first time around in 1998-2002. She will try to do that again to get re-elected.

If Frazier runs for reelection in 2014, I hope someone will have the nerve to ask her pointblank, onRead More camera, about her relationship to Roscoe Bartlett. Folks who've been around Carroll County for a while know the answer: there is no relation. She just tacked that on when she decided to run the first time. It may be her maiden name - or not - but she has never bothered to answer the question. She just let folks assume there is a connection, and lots of folks fell for it.
