The Transformation of Union Bridge

Tidewater Portland Cement Co., the predecessor of Lehigh Cement, began construction of a cement plant in Union Bridge in 1909. Mimi Ashcraft traces those first tumultuous years of the company’s existence based on information from the town’s newspaper and census records.
