Blog: Hats Off to HSP Staff for Successful Audit

Human Service Programs (HSP) Executive Director Cindy Parr congratulates the agency staff for getting a "two thumbs up" on an audit report.

There is no doubt that all HSP staff receives high marks in my book on a daily basis. It's the special recognition that comes from a monitoring agency that really causes you to take off your hat.

In this particular case, it's a high five for the program specialists who work in the energy assistance unit. Everyday, all day, this group of dedicated employees works diligently to screen clients for eligibility regarding energy assistance. Working with Maryland Energy Assistance (MEAP) and the Office of Home Energy Programs, this team of women perform intake, process and qualify more than 4,000 applications of Carroll County residents seeking emergency and energy assistance.

Each meeting entails a one on one interview where an application is made, a needs assessment is done and eligibility is determined. Once a client is considered eligible, the staff member advocates on behalf of their client with landlords and fuel suppliers to identify a plan that works to resolve a crisis.

One organization, OHEP, recently performed their annual audit and gave the staff a  "two thumbs up." The monitoring report included detailed comments related to the program's operations and procedures.

OHEP found all areas to be very favorable for the program's overall operations and administration. This is a very big deal considering the number of clients seen, managed and served. It's incredible to think that this group successfully case manages several thousand individuals annually.

Their efforts equated last year to nearly $5 million of direct client benefits that made their way back into the community. Pretty amazing! My hat goes off to recognize and thank them for their caring and compassion in some of the most difficult situations.
