Happy Father's Day Wishes from Kuwait

Westminster's Thomas Beyard sends Father's Day greetings from his post in Kuwait.

Westminster's Department of Planning, Zoning and Development Director Thomas Beyard, 56, departed for a 400-day rotation with the Maryland Army National Guard late last summer.

Beyard joined the Guard in 1997 after years with the Army Reserve. He has worked for the city of Westminster for close to 24 years.

Until his return, his position is being filled by interim Director Steve Horn.

To all, today is Father's Day - please pass on my best wishes to all Fathers on this important day!

My father passed away in 2005 and he very likely made me like I am, good and bad, depending on who you ask in my family. Just kidding. But seriously, he was a strong role model of hard work, a caring man in his own way, and the one who taught me to work and deal with people as I worked with him for many years at his automobile service station. For years, when I was in my teens, I would go in about 1800, let him go home to eat supper and relax, and wait for him to return about 2130 prior to closing at 2200. I also worked with him on Saturdays. It was a great expereince to work and be around your father like I was, and I think I am better for it. His work ethic was second to none and he never took off if he was sick - he just kept working. I only hope I can be judged as good a person as he was.

This morning at 0600 we had the Father's Day 5 km run. It was nice that we had many people from my unit run. The only down side was that the temperature at 0600 was 95F, very hot. Also, they provided a nice t-shirt. I attached a photo - it says happy father's day and right below it is a Superman logo. Everyone like the shirt. Even though I am not a father, I can now say, been there, done that, and have the t-shirt, hehe. I also attached some other photos of the large group of participants, my unit and some of the Soldiers I ran with.

I wish you all a great day!!

Regards,
Tom
