Downtown Fun this Thursday!

Free Concert Series and Sculpture Unveiling this Thursday at the Library, beginning at 6:15!

It’s June, and Downtown Westminster is bustling with great activities to match the great weather. From live music and plein air artistry to sidewalk sales and lacrosse, there’s sure to be something for everyone this week!

On Thursday, visit the library lawn to see the unveiling of the newest sculpture in the Mary Lou Dewey Sculpture Park at 6:15.  “Liber” is a sculpture created by Jo Israelson. The piece has been sculpted from Indiana limestone and represents the
transformation from the bark of a tree to the pages of a book.  The artist will be available for questions and comments after the presentation.

After the unveiling, stay for the kickoff of Downtown’s Free Summer Concert Series, Songs at 6:30!  Live music will be offered every Thursday at 6:30 on the library stage in June and July. The series begins with Tony Scuito, who is a songwriter, performer and record producer who has been active since 1965. He was a member of both Little River Band and Player. Sciuto has written songs for the Bay City Rollers, Nick Kamen, B. J. Thomas and even Tina Turner! Bring a blanket or chairs, and even dinner for a fun evening event for the whole family. It is sure to be a rockin’ time!

While you’re in town, check out the Sidewalk Sale offered by a number of the downtown merchants!  AMR Jewelry is offering buy one/get one 50% off, Eclecticity is holding a 3 for a dollar book sale, and Main Arterie and the Snoopers Shop are both offering fun items while being open later.  Check out the great dinner specials at our restaurants as well!

As if music and shopping isn’t enough on Thursday, stick around for lacrosse and art over the weekend! Check out the plein air artists painting away at Birdie’s Café this weekend.  The media of paint, photography and pastels will come alive on Saturday and Sunday. And Westminster becomes a lacrosse mecca this weekend as it hosts Lax Max, a lacrosse tournament festival welcoming hundreds of players and families from around the region and beyond.
