'Twas the Night of Starlight Shopping on Main Street Westminster
A fun twist on the traditional poem to announce Downtown Westminster's Starlight Shopping, this Friday night!
(Based on the poem by Clement Clarke Moore)
'Twas the night of Starlight Shopping, and all through the town
the shops were all stirring – no time to calm down!
The merchandise was laid out on the displays with care,
In hopes that merry shoppers would soon fill the air.
The gift wrap was nestled all snug in its place,
With festive gift bags, tissue and even ribbons of lace;
With my friends in the car and I with my map,
We had just decided which stores to visit after taking a nap (it’s a late night
you know).
About Starlight Shopping there is such a chatter,
Come to downtown to buy that unique, local gift – it really does matter!
Away from the car we all flew like a flash,
for we had to get to Starlight Shopping and buy our holiday stash.
We tore onto Main Street as quick as a dash!
The stars were twinkling and outside the shoppers were about
As they came into each store and gazed at the objects throughout.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a helpless shopper, looking for a gift for her dear.
With great guidance from a shop owner, so lively and quick,
The downtown shop had the perfect gift for her own Uncle Nick.
And then more rapid than reindeer our other shopping friends came,
And we whistled, and shouted, and directed them to the stores by name:
"To Coffey Music! To Clementines and Olde Liberty Shoppe!
To The Hickory Stick, Pomeroy's and Sidetracked – I just can’t stop!”
To Downtown Westminster on December 7, when you can shop until you drop!”
With shops like these, there’s a great choice from the mall…
Now shop away! Shop away! Shop away all!
As the gifts piled up from Streets Liberty and Main.
We then saw Santa Claus in the house right on Locust Lane(On Saturdays, Noon to 4).
So out to the sidewalks we shoppers we flew,
With arms full of wonderful goodies -- and gifts for us too!
And then, in a twinkling, we heard on Main Street
The laughter and happiness associated with neighbors who meet,
Santa was dressed in a red suit from his head to toe,
And loaded with gifts from downtown Westminster—he certainly knows where to go!
A bundle of bags he had flung on his back,
And he smiled with glee—having fabulous gifts in his pack.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! His decorations – how merry!
For Mrs. Claus he bought a purse and a candle that smelled like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
Since he finished his shopping Downtown, he had nowhere else he needed to go.
The stump of a Davidus Cigar he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
From all of the treats he enjoyed from Harry’s, J Cafe, and Guilianova Deli.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I knew he had the best shopping experience Downtown, if I do say so myself.
A friendly holiday greeting he had for all, as he began his tradition of sharing his call:
Downtown Westminster is bustling with glee,
Filled with unique shops, boutiques, restaurants and lots of things to see,
On Friday, December 7th, Starlight Shopping is certainly the place
to be!
So gather your neighbors and friends from near and far;
And have fun downtown while you shop until 10pm under the stars!
