Blog: For Easter, Go Beyond Candy "Yolks"

Think beyond traditional candy "yolks" for your plastic Easter eggs this year.

As a child, I looked forward to Easter with excitement — mainly for the candy. I loved racing around the house snatching up plastic eggs, the big dinner my mom made with all of our favorite dishes, a fancy new spring dress and having guests at the house to play with. But my biggest wish on Easter was for lots and lots of candy.

When I was a kid, candy was a scarcity. I would try to stretch my Halloween treats all the way to Easter, rationing out one mini-chocolate bar at at time. Nowadays, my kids seem to live in a world where sweets are everywhere all year round. I often have to clear the old candy out of the pantry to make room for the new. And I can’t for the life of me figure out where it all comes from. A birthday party here, a school event there and lollipops at almost every small business we frequent.

So this year, I am asking the Easter Bunny to fill the plastic eggs with some non-traditional "yolks." Trust me Bunny, my kids have enough candy.  How about some of the things below instead?
