Oil Heat Foundation and Modern Comfort Systems Help Sykesville Resident

Good deeds do happen!

Last week, Oil Heat Cares (OHC), a foundation based in East Petersburg, PA and Westminster-based Modern Comfort Systems (MCS) helped a recently-widowed Sykesville homeowner by replacing the boiler unit in her oil heating system at no cost to her.

When the homeowner, who asked to remain anonymous, noticed water leaking from her 30-year old equipment, she contacted MCS, who came the same day and diagnosed the problem as a split in the boiler unit.  Replacement of the boiler unit, which supplies both her heat and domestic hot water, was necessary.  But the cost was prohibitive for her, so Hank Larsen, Business Manager at MCS contacted Oil Heat Cares to see if they could help.  Larsen explains, “When we learned of her recent difficulties, we immediately contacted OHC, who agreed to donate the cost of the equipment if MCS would donate the labor.”  And just as quickly as that decision was made, MCS technicians returned to install the new boiler.  “The homeowner could not have been more gracious,” Larsen continues.  “It feels good to help someone so deserving, and we appreciate the generosity of Oil Heat Cares in these situations!”

Oil Heat Cares, which was founded by the National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals (OESP), raises funds to purchase heating equipment, and members such as MCS identify those individuals most in need of a helping hand. When a project is approved, all the work and equipment becomes a gift to the recipient.  “Oil Heat Cares is the oilheat industry’s way of giving back to their local communities by helping their neighbors in need,” said Judy Garber, Executive Director of OESP and Chairwoman of the OHC Foundation’s Board of Directors. “This project was a perfect fit for us, and I am glad that Oil Heat Cares was able to help.”
