Obituary: Ronald Brewer, Orphans Court Judge

Ronald Brewer was woven into the fabric of the Westminster community as a parent, a volunteer, a coach, a church member and a local judge.

Ronald Wayne Brewer, age 70, of Westminster died Wednesday evening July 11, 2012 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born October 19, 1941 in Westminster he was the son of the late Guy Leroy Brewer Sr. and Kathryn Thomas Brewer. He was the husband of Lynette Spickler Brewer, his wife of 38 years.

He was employed with Washington National Insurance for 20 years prior to becoming Sales Manager for Bohn Pontiac for 20 years, earning numerous awards. He presently was serving as Judge of the Orphans Court of Carroll County.

In past years he was an active Jaycee. He started a Basketball Little League and coached one of the teams. He served as President of the Carroll County Republican Central Committee, was a past President of the Westminster Lions Club and awarded Lion of the Year in 2007. He was recently honored with the Melvin Jones Award, the Lions Club’s highest honor. He was very involved with Westminster Fall Fest and was honored as Outstanding Volunteer by Westminster Recreation and Parks. He enjoyed being part of the Brewer Brother’s Annual Pig Roast.  He volunteered for the Historical Society of Carroll County and the Carroll County Arts Council. He served as a Staff Sargent in the Army Reserves and was a member of the Church of The Open Door and a graduate of Westminster High School in 1960.

In his spare time he enjoyed family, friends, traveling and community involvement.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Debbie Weishaar and husband Bill, daughter Shelli Desmond, grandchildren Jimmy Weishaar and wife Katie, Johnny, Derek and Ryan Weishaar, Maggie and TJ Desmond, Brad Utz, Jenni Utz  Leppert and Husband Jeff,  Julie Caple and husband Joel. Four great grandchildren; Austin Utz, Tyler Leppert, Cheyenne Caple and Raiden Weishaar.

Brothers Kenneth T. Brewer and wife Ann of Palestine, TX, Guy L. Brewer Jr. and wife Doris of Silver Run, Earle H. Brewer of Littlestown, PA, Richard L. Brewer, Marvin J. Brewer and wife Linda, Dean A. Brewer and wife Roxanne, Eugene D. Brewer and wife Renee and Mark L. Brewer and wife Laurie, sisters Donna Rickell Green, Dolly A. Long and husband Lee all of Westminster, brothers-in-laws Jerry and David Spickler of Hagerstown, sisters-in-laws Chris Dick of Smithsburg and Mary Lou Weller of WVA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Millie Brewer and sister-in-law Sharon Brewer,

Family will receive friends at The Church of The Open Door, 550 Baltimore Blvd. Westminster, MD 21157, Monday, July 16, 2012 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm and Tuesday 10 am until time of service,

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 am at The Church of The Open Door with Rev. Dr. Norris Belcher and Rev. Richard Holbrook officiating. Interment Westminster Cemetery.
