3-Car Collision Friday Sends One to Shock Trauma

Three men were involved in the collision, two refused treatment at the scene, police said.

A man was sent to Shock Trauma Friday after a three-car collision at Rt. 91 and Old Gamber Road, police said.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. Friday, police said a Honda Civic driven by David Stanner, 21, of Milford Mill, was traveling east on Old Gamber Road at the  MD Rt. 91 when the car lost control and ran a stop sign. A 2004 Kenworth Tractor Trailer, driven by John Rhoades Sr., 48, of Baltimore, struck the Honda Civic on the front passenger side.

After striking the Honda, the tractor trailer veered to the left crossing the center line and striking a 2010 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Kelly Murphy, 38, of Westminster, head on, police said.

Stanner and Rhoades both refused medical care on scene, according to police, and Murphy was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life threatening injuries.

Police said Murphy remains in critical condition as of Friday evening.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be contributing factors, police said.

Collision Reconstructionists from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Maryland State Police Reconstruction and Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit responded and will be conducting a detailed investigation.

Charges are pending based on the outcome of the investigation and review with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision please contact Cpl. Jeffrey Miller of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 410-386-5900.
