Deputies Recognized by Maryland Sheriff's Association at Annual Awards Ceremony

Three Sheriff's deputies were recognized by a state policing association.

The Maryland Sheriff's Association recognized three Carroll County Sheriff's officers in their 2011 Deputy of the Year Awards. 

Annually, nominees for the awards are submitted from the 24 Sheriff’s Offices throughout Maryland and Baltimore City.  The Deputies are eligible for awards in five categories; Valor, Traffic Safety, Crime Prevention, Contribution to the Profession, and Correctional Officer of the Year, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

Corporal Worthy Washington of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office won the Crime Prevention Award for his performance as a Youth Intervention Officer and DARE Instructor in the Carroll County School System according to a news release.

Deputy First Class Michael Fitzgerald of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office won the Traffic Safety Award for his work in traffic safety that included, traffic citations, criminal/juvenile arrests, warnings and accident investigations.

Additionally, Corporal Juan Bustos received Honorable Mention for the Contribution to the Profession Award for his expertise as a Criminal Investigator, Maryland Police Training Commission Instructor, National Crime Information Center Instructor, Spanish Language Interpreter and Mobile Data Terminal Trainer according to a news release.
