Icy Roads Result in Fatal Weekend Crash [updated 10 p.m.]

Westminster resident Michele Hughes, mother of three, was killed after her Jeep hit a tree Saturday night.

According to the Maryland State Police, Fifty-year-old Michele FinesseHughes was driving a Jeep Wrangler northbound on Houck Road towards Neudecker Road Saturday night when her vehicle slid on the ice and she lost control of her car. She went off the right side of the road, down an embankment and hit a tree on the driver's side of the car. 

An initial investigation by the police determined that Hughes was not wearing her seatbelt. 

She was transported to Carroll Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead. According to the Maryland State Police, there were three other occupants in the vehicle who received non-life threatening injuries. It is presumed that they were all wearing seat restraints or were secured in car seats.

According to her obituary on Legacy.com, Hughes is survived by her husband of 28 years, Mark Allen Hughes, and three children, Jessee Allen Hughes, Toni Jo Ashley Hughes and Shelby Lynne Hughes, all of Westminster.
