Former Sheriff's Major Pleads Guilty to Misconduct Charges

Nicholas Plazio was charged with misconduct for lying in connection to a homicide case.

A former Carroll County Sheriff's Office Major pleaded guilty to misconduct charges in court Tuesday morning.

Nicholas Plazio of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office resigned Jan. 2 after the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor charged him with misconduct in office.

According to charging documents, Plazio willfully and knowingly gave false information to the Carroll County State's Attorney Office, and gave false testimony in court, in connection a homicide case.

According to court documents, Plazio pleaded guilty prior to the start of his hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Plazio's one-year prison sentence was suspended with three years of supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and to complete 500 hours of community service at a rate of 15 hours per month, according to court documents.
