Former Sheriff's Major Pleads Guilty to Misconduct Charges

Nicholas Plazio was charged with misconduct for lying in connection to a homicide case.

A former Carroll County Sheriff's Office Major pleaded guilty to misconduct charges in court Tuesday morning.

Nicholas Plazio of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office resigned Jan. 2 after the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor charged him with misconduct in office.

According to charging documents, Plazio willfully and knowingly gave false information to the Carroll County State's Attorney Office, and gave false testimony in court, in connection a homicide case.

According to court documents, Plazio pleaded guilty prior to the start of his hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Plazio's one-year prison sentence was suspended with three years of supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and to complete 500 hours of community service at a rate of 15 hours per month, according to court documents.

"suspended with three years of supervised probation." WOW.... if that was anyone else...?

The AP story I read about this says it's a misdemeanor, so yeah, 3 years of probation doesn't sound far off for anyone with similar first offense. The biggest thing is he no longer works for the CCSO. I'd be happier if I knew that he would forfeit any of his retirement from CCSO, but then again, he probably is drawing a very nice MSP pension, so even that wouldn't hurt him.

His behavior was arrogant, disgraceful and unacceptable. What has happened to honesty, integrity and credibility. What a disgrace to the uniform.

I've maintained my position on this since all this was revealed. Both the sheriff's office and state's attorney commands need to be replaced. Kasten is always commenting but he is responsible also. He had his hands on the "memo" and did nothing but hide it with the sheriff. He needs to go also! Its a shame that my tax money is going to these people......ring leaders of the Carroll County Circus!
