Pennsylvania Woman Awaits Extradition for Bomb Threat in Carroll County

Police said the 19-year-old woman made the bomb threat on behalf of an acquaintance who was scheduled to appear in court.

A Pennsylvania woman faces charges of calling in a bomb threat on Tuesday that  and halted traffic in the area for five hours, according to the county Sheriff's Department.

Police said that Kaylissa Lashel Kelly, 19, of Littlestown, PA, made the call on behalf of an acquaintance who was scheduled for a court appearance Tuesday morning. Kelly is charged with making false statement of destructive device, threat of arson, reckless endangerment, telephone misuse and obstruction of justice.

Kelly was arrested at her home in Littlestown on Friday and is being held at the Adam’s County, PA Detention Center awaiting extradition to Maryland for the bomb threat charges and for failing to appear in court on an unrelated charge.

Carroll County Circuit Court officials received an anonymous telephone call at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday,  April 16 claiming that an explosive device had been left in one of the court buildings, according to police.

The Circuit and District Court buildings were evacuated and traffic within the immediate area was stopped while personnel from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, Westminster Police, Howard and Baltimore County Sheriff’s Office used explosive detection K9 Teams and x-ray equipment to inspect the buildings police said. Both courts cancelled operations for the day.

No device was found and the call was determined to be a hoax, according to police reports.

After detectives learned that Kelly had made the call, she was located at her Littlestown residence on Friday, and with the cooperation of the Littlestown Police Department, taken into custody on an unrelated arrest warrant charging her with failing to appear for trial in Carroll County.  She had been scheduled to appear on Thursday, April 18, on charges of driving without a license, police said.
