Man Accused of Shooting Brother Released on Bond

The Westminster man said he was defending his mother and himself.

A 38-year-old Westminster man accused of shooting his brother on Dec. 12 was released after posting $150,000 bond.

Last Thursday, Reno Valianti of Westminster was accused of shooting his brother, Michael Valianti, 33, in the stomach in their Sullivan Road home.

The Carroll County Times reports that Reno Valianti told officers he was defending his mother and himself when he fired the gun.

Michael Valianti was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma following the shooting. He has since been released from the hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.  

Reno Valianti was charged on multiple counts including first and second degree assault and attempted first and second degree murder. 

Reno Valianti is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 2.
