Update: One Fatality in Rt. 140 Head-On Collision Sunday

A Taneytown man was sent to Shock Trauma.

A Westminster man was pronounced dead on the scene of a head-on collision early Sunday morning at Rt. 140 west of Hughes Shop Road, police said.

Police report that on Sunday, Aug. 4 just before 1 a.m., a 2013 Toyota Tundra, driven by Michael Lloyd Bangs, 58, of Westminster, and a 1998 Ford Ranger, driven by Donald Craig Frazier, 54, of Taneytown, hit head on. 

The Toyota was traveling south and the Ford was traveling north on Rt. 140, police said.  For unknown reasons, the Toyota crossed over the center line of the road and the two vehicles struck each other head on, according to police reports.

Bangs succumbed to injuries received in the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS personnel, police said.  A forensic investigator from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was on the scene.  

Donald Craig Frazier was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police Medevac Trooper 1 for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Frazier is the husband of Carroll County Commissioner Robin Frazier. Commissioner Frazier Tweeted at 10:24 p.m Sunday, "Praise God my husband's first surgery went well. Will be in Shock Trauma for 1 to 2 weeks. Thanks to Westminster Fire Co and state troopers". 

A Maryland State Police Accident Reconstructionist responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.  The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours. The investigation is ongoing.
