Police Arrest Suspect in Manchester Elementary School Assault

Police said a man with a handgun approached a car with people in it who were reportedly waiting for a friend.

A 19-year-old Manchester man was arrested for assaulting an individual who was waiting for a friend at Manchester Elementary School Friday night, police said.

According to police reports, Matthew Rufe, 19, of Manchester came out of the woods near Manchester Elementary School Friday around 11 p.m. and approached a car with several individuals in it who were waiting for a friend. Rufe, armed with a handgun, forced the driver to get out of the car and lay on the ground, police said. 

Another passenger confronted the suspect and after a brief scuffle, police said Rufe fled in an unknown direction. 

Early Saturday morning, Rufe was arrested at his home and transported to central booking where he was charged with first and second degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said.
