Police Charge Mount Airy Man with Killing Father

The suspect has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, police said.

A Carroll County man was charged with killing his father in Mount Airy Monday afternoon, according to a Maryland State Police representative.

Police responded to a 911 call for a disturbance in a Mount Airy home Monday afternoon. When police arrived they found the suspect, 31-year-old Joseph Pine, standing outside. His father, 63-year-old Michael Pine, was found dead on the porch of the home next door, according to Maryland State Police representative Greg Shipley.

According to Shipley, investigators found evidence of an altercation that took place throughout the home in which Joseph assaulted his father, possibly with one or more knives. Police believe that the attack began inside the home and continued when the victim ran from the home. Shipley said the victim made it as far as the next door neighbor's porch where he was found dead.

Shipley said police collected evidence which has been sent to the crime lab for analysis.

Suspect Joseph Pine was taken to Carroll Hospital Center for a psychological evaluation, according to Shipley. He was released and taken to the Carroll County Detention Center early Tuesday morning where he was booked and officially charged with first- and second-degree murder.

The two men lived in the house alone and no one else was in the house at the time of the altercation, Shipley said.
