Police: Four Suspects Charged for Scrap Metal Theft

The property owner confronted the men and provided police with key information.

Four men were charged with trespassing and theft after police said they stole scrap metal from a property on Bethel Road in Mt. Airy.

Late Thursday afternoon, Travis Waddell, 19,  Branden Battle, 19, Adam Nicholas Toth, 22, all from Mt. Airy, and Dwayne Douglas Frazier, 32 of Boyds, were each charged with trespassing and theft according to a police report.  In addition, TWaddell was charged with possession of marijuana.

Police said deputies responded to the 5800 block of Bethel Road in Mt. Airy to investigate a theft complaint at about 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 1. Police said the property owner observed the four men loading scrap metal from the property into a white Ford Ranger truck and confronted them.

The thieves unloaded some of the scrap metal before fleeing, police said. The property owner provided the deputies with the truck’s registration number and that information led the deputies to the four suspects, according to a police report.

Deputies confronted the men at a home in the 7800 block of East Hill Road near Mt. Airy and the suspects disclosed that they had sold the scrap metal to a processing company, police said.

Additionally, during the interview of Waddell, deputies detected the odor of marijuana and after a police inquiry, Waddell voluntarily surrendered approximately 28 grams of marijuana to the deputies, according to police.

All  four men were issued criminal citations for the offenses with a court date to be assigned at a later date. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Detective Chris Youman at 410-386-2900, or the toll free anonymous TIPS Hotline at 1-888-399-TIPP (8477).

Congratulations graduates! May you be as successful in the next part of your journey as you were atRead More St. John School.

I don't live in your district and I am not a member of your party. I have watched you during yourRead More meetings with the commissioners and you handle things very well. You have a balance of private and public sector experience which is a necessary background to have to guide the county. It will be nice to have a competent person with your qualifications to run against someone who is totally unqualified but never had any opposition in the last election. Now she will have to attend the voter forums and explin her views and positions. Let the chips fall where they may. The emperor will have no clothes.

Wow, this is great news. Hopefully, 1 down and 4 to go!! Make sure Frazier shows up at theRead More political forums this time. She chose to miss every one last time, so she did not have to answer questions on her positions and her horrible record the first time around in 1998-2002. She will try to do that again to get re-elected.

If Frazier runs for reelection in 2014, I hope someone will have the nerve to ask her pointblank, onRead More camera, about her relationship to Roscoe Bartlett. Folks who've been around Carroll County for a while know the answer: there is no relation. She just tacked that on when she decided to run the first time. It may be her maiden name - or not - but she has never bothered to answer the question. She just let folks assume there is a connection, and lots of folks fell for it.
