The 2013 graduate sustained severe and lasting injuries in a car accident Wednesday.

--Update 12:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15--

Devan Curet, a 2013 Westminster High School graduate, was critically injured in a car accident on Md. 482 Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports from the family, Devan has sustained severe and lasting injuries including the loss of one leg and his spleen in addition to fractures and injuries in other limbs and internally. He remains in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center Friday.

His family posted this message on Devan's Caring Bridge site Friday around noon:

We have had some good news. Devan was taken into surgery last night and they worked on him for a couple hours. The purpose of this surgery was to attempt to save his other leg. And, by all indications, it worked. They found that his right leg has healthy muscle and is looking strong. This was in serious doubt yesterday and this change makes us incredible happy.

The family added that only immediate relatives are allowed to visit Devan at this point. The message said they are appreciative of all the support they are receiving from the Westminster community as well as the medical team working on Devan.

Caring Bridge site has been created to keep friends and family updated on Devan's condition. The family posted the following update Thursday afternoon.

Although he is currently resting and his vitals are stable, Devan has several lasting injuries. The most noticeable injury is that his left leg was amputated last night, just above the knee. He also has multiple fractures on both arms, his other leg, and his hip. His internal organs also suffered injury and the doctors were forced to remove his spleen as well as parts of his GI tract and bowel. The doctors are closely monitoring the situation and hope he will not suffer any more severe injuries, but as of today he is stable. We remain optimistic that the worst is behind us.
