Sheriff's Domestic Violence Unit Relocates

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office Domestic Violence Unit will continue to help local residents suffering from abuse.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office Domestic Violence Unit will move from the courthouse annex across the street to the lobby of the Sheriff's Office effective Jan. 27.

The Domestic Violence Unit has been located within the courthouse annex since April 2005, and is being relocated to make room for a planned expansion of the Circuit Court.  The Unit’s telephone numbers and hours will remain unchanged, with facilitators available from the new location at 100 N. Court St. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Domestic Violence Unit was established to give those being abused a place to go for help. This team of facilitators and uniformed deputies is responsible for interviewing victims, eliciting facts, providing guidance in securing court orders or arrest warrants, and the service of all related judicial documents.

During this past year, the Unit served more than 1,700 court orders related to domestic violence.  With the assistance of a grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with domestic violence victims, just from a new location.
