Suspects Arrested After Westminster Neighbor Spoils Home Burglary

Three men from Pennsylvania were arrested late yesterday for burglarizing a home after an observant neighbor reported the suspect's suspicious behavior. 

Japeth C. Miles, 22, of Gettysburg; Arik J. White, 21, of Gettysburg; and Robert J. Voitek, 18, of Fairfield were arrested for stealing items from a home in the 4700 block of Band Hill Rd., police said.

At approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said an alert resident observed two men, later identified as Miles and Voitek, walk to the rear of a neighbor’s house and disappear.  The men were then seen leaving the property carrying a white sack, police said.  The two men fled the neighborhood in a grey BMW coupe driven by a man later identified as White, according to police reports. 

Police confirmed that the home had been entered through a rear window, and that several items had been taken.  With the detailed vehicle description provided by the neighbor police were able to locate the vehicle and detain the three suspects.  

Police recovered a pry bar and a white pillow case containing jewelry and other valuables taken from the home, according to police.

The three men were charged with first, third and fourth degree burglary, theft less than $1,000 and Theft, $1,000 to $10,000, police said.

Miles, White and Voitek have been charged by Pennsylvania authorities as Fugitives from Justice and are being held in the Adams County Jail pending Maryland extradition proceedings. 

“This was an example of superb coordination between all agencies involved and serves as an example of a citizen helping the police to detect and solve crime,” Sheriff Ken Tregoning said in a statement.
