Unattended Grill Causes Two-Alarm Fire in Mount Airy

A fire on North Main Street in Mount Airy caused significant damage to a single-family home on Thursday.

An unattended grill was the cause of a two-alarm fire that engulfed a single-family home in the 300 block of North Main Street in Mount Airy Thursday, said Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Doug Alexander.

The Mount Airy Fire Department received the call at 10:53 a.m. and took about 90 minutes to control.

More than 20 pieces of fire equipment and 50 to 70 firefighters were on the scene from Carroll, Frederick and Howard Counties.

The fire caused more than $300,000 worth of damage to the home.

No injuries were reported. Four adults and two children were in the house at the time of the blaze and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
