A 13-year-old female is accused of making a false threat Tuesday to bomb West Middle School, Carroll County Sheriff's officials said in a release.

According to a Sheriff's Department news release, just after 11 a.m. school officials reported finding an anonymous, non-specific written threat to the school building.

They said a student found the threatening note, a release said.

The school was evacuated while officers from several area law enforcement agencies inspected the building with explosive detection canine teams.

William Winchester Elementary, located right next to West Middle School, was also on a modified lockdown, according to spokesperson Brenda Bowers, but that lockdown has since been lifted.

The teen has been charged as a juvenile with making a “False Statement regarding a Destructive Device."

She is in the custody of her parents pending legal proceedings before the Department of Juvenile Services, law enforcement said.

"Investigators do not believe the youth presented any danger to West Middle School, its students or faculty," officials said in a release.

The middle school bomb threat comes on the heels of a bomb threat at the Carroll County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, which officials said they did not believe to be connected to the school bomb threat incident.

Officials from the Carroll County Sheriff’s office said Carroll County Circuit Court officials received an anonymous phone call at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday claiming “an explosive device had been left in one of the court buildings."

Police continue to investigate. They said Tuesday afternoon they also believed that threat to be a "hoax."
