Westminster Fire Department Rescue Roundup

Thursday and Friday saw a lot of activity for the Westminster Fire Department.

The has faced car accidents, medical incidents and fires this week. Here is a rundown of Thursday and Friday's calls, taken from the Westminster Fire Company's website.

Thursday, April 19

  • The evening started out with a vehicle collision in front of Food Lion on Englar Rd.
  • After units cleared the call and were back in the station they were alerted for a motorcycle accident at Route 31 and Uniontown Rd. Units arrived to find a motorcycle on the ground with the patient lying in the roadway. Due to the injuries of the patient, helicopter transportation was requested, bringing Trooper 3 to Westminster for the first of two fly-outs of the night.
  • Units cleared the call and were at the station making dinner plans when they were once again sent out on a vehicle collision, the third of the evening. Units arrived to find a rear-end type collision at Rt. 97 just north of Meadow Branch Rd. No injuries were found.
  • As the Engine and Duty were turning onto John St. they were picked up on the air, along with A-37, for the fourth vehicle collision of the night on Rt. 140 between Royer and WMC Dr. Units arrived to find a three car collision with two patients. Due to the injuries of one patient Trooper 3 (helicopter) was requested, once again, to come to Westminster.  Trooper 3 landed at the Westminster Community Pool, just off of Royer Rd.
  • After clearing the call, units were in the station waiting on Lt. 3-2 to get back with the pizza for dinner. Unfortunately, dinner would never come. While picking up dinner at Vocelli Pizza in Westminster, Duty 3 requested E-31 for the malfunctioning oven. E-31 and Tower 3 went to the scene to find a small electrical fire in the oven.
  • While working to gain access to the fire, Duty 3 was advised of the odor of sulfur at .  Brush 35 was returning in the area and was added to the call. Tower 3 cleared the fire to assist with the HAZ-MAT incident. After making entry the source of the odor was unable to be found and units cleared.

Friday, April 20

  • Car accident at Market Street and Rt. 140--helicopter transport requested for one patient. (Engine 31, Medic 37, Utility 3, Engine 91 Reese, MSP Aviation).
  • Car accident at Rt 27 and Warfieldsburg Road--one trapped person needed assistance to be removed from the vehicle. (Engine 31, Medic 37, Utility 3, Rescue Squad 9)
  • Car accident at 140 at Leidy Rd.-- units from Reese Fire Dept. responded, requested additional medical units (Medic 37, Medic 38). State Police Westminster Barrack Commander Lt. Jim DeWees said that two people in the accident were flown to Shock Trauma. He said there were three cars involved and as of 5 p.m. Friday police were still trying to determine who was at fault.
