Westminster Man Charged in Overnight Assault on Mother

A man was charged with first and second degree assault as well as reckless endangerment.

’s detectives have charged Eric Douglas Liem, 23, with first and second degree assault and reckless endangerment in the overnight assault on his mother at their home just outside of Westminster. 

Shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday night, law enforcement officers from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police were dispatched to a home along the 500 block of Goldenrod Terrace for reports of an altercation, according to police.  

Police said they found 52-year-old Suzanne Mary Liem conscious, but suffering from multiple stab wounds to her back and chest.  Her son, Eric Douglas Liem, was also inside the home at the time and surrendered to law enforcement officers without incident police said.  The assault reportedly took place following an escalating disagreement between the two, police said.

Suzanne Mary Liem was transported by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she was reported in critical but stable condition. 

Eric Douglas Liem is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.  Additional charges are pending a review by the Carroll County States Attorney’s Office.
