Westminster Man Killed After Being Struck by Car

Police said a the man was struck in the 900 block of Chapel Road on Friday afternoon.

A Westminster man was killed after he was struck by a car in the 900 block of Chapel Road on Friday afternoon, police said.

According to a police release from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, police responded to reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 900 block of Chapel Road at 3:25 p.m. on Friday. The pedestrian, a 45-year-old Westminster man, was treated at the scene and taken to the Carroll Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.

The man was walking west bound along the edge of the roadway when he was struck from behind by a 2002 Nisan Sedan operated by a 21-year-old Taneytown man, who was also traveling west bound, according to police.

Authorities and investigators continue to investigate the accident, which could take several weeks, according to the release. Charges are pending the outcome of that investigation. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this collision. 

The identity of the man struck has not been released at this time.
