Where in the World is Police Chief Jeffrey Spaulding?

Chief Spaulding checks in with Patch from Greece, where he is supporting the Special Olympics.

Westminster Police Chief Jeffrey Spaulding sat down with Patch several weeks ago to share details about his trip to Greece to support the Special Olympics. Spaulding left for Greece on June 3 and is scheduled to return on July 5. He checked in with Patch via e-mail earlier this week.

Chief Spaulding wrote from Greece:

Things have been very hectic here and I have not had regular access to the internet.  So far I have spent four days in Athens and three days on Cyprus.

While in Cyprus we completed 15 Torch Runs in local communities.  After flying back to Athens yesterday we boarded a ferry and sailed overnight to Crete where we will be for three days.  We have seven Torch Runs today and six more tomorrow, then we start to island hop and do Torch Runs all over the Greek Isles.

Two other teams of officers are doing the same in Western and Eastern Greece/Turkey.  All told, we will collectively conduct more than 150 Torch Runs prior to the games.  I will then spend a week in Athens assisting with the actual [summer Special Olympic] games.

This has been a wonderful and meaningful experience.  The days are very long and the nights are short, but we are having a great time.

Patch will continue to share updates from Chief Spaulding as we receive them.
