Woman Killed in Single Vehicle Crash in Sykesville

Police said a 49-year-old Sykesville woman crashed into a utility pole.

On Sunday, June 3, at about 4:22 a.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack responded to the scene of a single vehicle car crash at route 97 at Hoods Mill Rd in Sykesville. 

According to the state police, In Suk Yoo, 49, of Sykesville was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry north on Maryland Route 97. She traveled over the double yellow line into the southbound lane, then onto the grass shoulder, where the vehicle struck a Baltimore Gas and Electric Utility Pole, police report. 

Police said Yoo then attempted to back away from the utility pole but was unsuccessful.  She attempted to exit the vehicle at which time she succumbed to injuries sustained as in the crash. Yoo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sykesville Fire Department according to the police.

Yoo was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.  Police said the roadway is going to be closed with the assistance of the State Highway Administration, for an extended period while BGE replaces the pole.  At this time alcohol is not believed to be a factor however, speed and driver error are factors.
