Carroll County Declares State of Emergency in Preparation for Hurricane Irene

Carroll County anticipates periods of intense rain and sustained wind gusts, and power outages are likely.

The Board of County Commissioners signed a Declaration of a State of Emergency for Carroll County at 10 a.m. this morning in an effort to prepare for Hurricane Irene. 

According to a news release, Hurricane Irene is a strong and powerful storm. Carroll County anticipates periods of intense rain which may total up to 6 inches accompanied by sustained winds of 36 mph with gusts above 40 mph. Carroll County will likely experience widespread power outages, flooding in low lying areas and/or downed trees. 

The Office of Public Safety Support Services Emergency Management is closely monitoring the track of Irene as well as coordinating with our partner agencies to prepare to meet the needs of our residents and business owners, the news release states.
