Carroll County Teachers Protest Against Pension Bill

Supporters held signs during rush hour in Westminster, Hampstead and Eldersburg.

Teachers, supporters and local residents rallied to stop proposed pension pass back legislation and fix the Maintenance of Effort law during rush hour Wednesday.

The Carroll County Education Association (CCEA) hosted demonstrations in three parts of the county Wednesday afternoon (Eldersburg, Westminster and Hampstead). CCEA is a membership organization representing 2,200 educators in the Carroll County Public School system.

Carroll County Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Guthrie said that if Maintenance of Effort (MOE) isn't fixed and teacher pension costs are passed back to counties, class sizes will increase, and services and extracurricular activities will be cut.
